What equipment does Ecology Expeditions provide?

We will provide you with a 2 in 1 sleeping system which includes a hammock and a mosquito net. To accompany this will also provide the ‘raincover’ or ‘basher’ as it’s more commonly known.

We will also provide leach socks for each individual, group cooking pots, group medical kit (not personal medical kit), group spade.

All other equipment you will need to supply yourself. A typical equipment list is as below:

Rucksack; from 60-80 litres as a guide
Rucksack rain cover (not essential)
Rucksack water proof liners
Compression sacks for clothing etc.
At least 5metres of paracord
Candles
Lighter
Appropriate outdoor trousers (not cotton), 2pairs one ‘wet’ one ‘dry’. In our experience some of the best are those with detachable bottoms to make into shorts
Appropriate t-shirts (1 or more) ideally not cotton
Appropriate long-shirts (2 or more) ideally not cotton
Underwear (at least 2 pairs of each)
Sock liners (at least 1 pair)
Lightweight hiking socks (at least one pair)
Lightweight thermal hat
Wide brimmed hat (for sun protection)
Lightweight waterproof top
Lightweight waterproof bottoms (optional)
Fleece/jumper (1 pair)
Sun glasses (can be easily bought in Kota Kinabalu is necessary)
Lightweight walking boots (Merrell gore-tex hiking boots for hot weather are highly recommended), though occasionally we have found that people require extra soles added for comfort.
Camera (optional)
Pen, notebook
Personal cooking utensils: spoon, bowl, cup
Personal medical and hygiene kit (including anti-malarials)
Head torch, plus spare batteries and bulb
Many plastic container bags (i.e. freezer bags) to keep items dry
Pen knife
Insect repellent (historically the best ones have DEET contained, usually at least 50% - unfortunately this is not the most environmentally friendly insect repellent, but now Lifesystems have brought out Natural Plus, which seems to be just as effective)
Flip-flops (can easily be purchased in Kota-Kinabalu)
Lightweight sleeping bag
Lightweight sleeping mat (optional) makes hammocks more comfortable and warmer in the night
Sun lotion/block
Anti-bacterial hand hygiene gel (drywash)
