Tropical Ecology and Trekking Adventure

Testimonials

These pictures are from the 5th September 2009- 19th September 2009 expedition, in partnership with Frontier, a non-profit UK science, conservation and exploratory organisation.

"The expedition was well worth every penny I paid, it was easy to see where the money went and I enjoyed every minute. (From this expedition) I gained a far greater understanding of Borneo as a country and of its people. My awareness of conservation measures and pressures has increased alongside my knowledge of the wildlife and plantlife. I also learnt many new jungle survival type skills, and made many new friends.I rate the ecology field course at Danau Girang very highly, it exceeded my expectations; I saw many fantastic animals and am leaving with a much broader understanding of ecology and factors affecting conservation efforts." Josh Pendergast

"Any Biology based University or A-level student would find this expedition incredibly beneficial, and potentially excellent for your CV." Rob Appleby

Crocodile

This salt water crocodile is a big one, nearly 4 metres in length. Look closely and you can see that its eyes are open - it didn't move a muscle as both boats came close.

Day 2 of the 4-day trek. The Pa' Dapur River, Pulong Tau National Park, Sarawak, next to the hut (Long Rapun) between Bario and Bakelalan. A great place to have a swim after a day's jungle trekking. Further downstream there are a family of otters frequently seen swimming along the river banks.

Kayan-Mentarang National Park, Kalimantan, Indonesia. Day 3 of the 4-day trek, heading from the hut at Long Rapun in the morning, this area nicknamed 'the ridge of the giants'...for obvious reasons!

Day 1 of the trek, we were meant to be sleeping in the jungle but had a change of plan and stayed in a nearby homestay in Long Medang, Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Late afternoon, Day 3, in the Kayan-Mentarang National Park - Indonesia's largets, and also part of one of the largest remaining tracts of contiguous rainforest in Southeast Asia. This camping area is also close to another river great for bathing in, which is why all our things are hanging up for drying. Our guides are Aseya, middle right and Martinus on the right.

Evening, Day 3. Just relaxing before a night walk along the river.

Early morning, Day 4. Apparantly Rob had a great nights sleep.
